Working as a freelance, I can tailor my support and service exactly to what is requested. Many of my clients are active in the process themselves, and I think that is essential in order to achieve exactly what they want. My role is to provide and structure ideas and possibilities and together we pin it down to a good plan. I guide my clients through the process of defining, clarifying, planning, organising and implementation of the ideas.
Together we put down a to do list, and you decide what my role should be, and how much you would like to do yourself. My experience is that starting a project, gathering information and making decisions is the hard part. You need to feel comfortable with the choices, and that is so much more easy when you have a clear vision of what you want. Mood boards is an effective way to communicate, and to draw the lines for a project in the start, and down to every detail if needed.
Dream it- Plan it- Make it happen!
About Helene Arentz Interior Design
Helene set up HA Interior Design in Norway in 2007 and relocated to southwest London in 2013. She draws inspiration from nature to create peaceful, welcoming environments in light, muted colours and top quality, natural materials. Trained as an interior architect in Oslo, her style is calm and has strong Scandinavian influence. She likes to mix in vintage pieces and design elements from other cultures, and pays close attention to pleasing textures and combinations. She works across Europe and is currently undertaking projects in Barcelona, London and Oslo.
Many of her clients are in search of someone to help to transform their home to meet the changing needs of their family. Transformations can be as simple as a fresh choice of colours, a new layout or a finishing touch; or they can involve a more radical redesign of the way living space is used, or a total reimagining of their home with built extensions.
So here I will tell you about how I look for interesting textures when creating a room.. the text is in Latin for now ;) Bare with me!

For many years I’ve dreamed of designing my own range of wonderful products that adds something more than just another “thing” to a home. After some years in London, with access to the most amazing Antique markets and secondhand shops, it came naturally as a collection of handmade and unique items such as vintage textiles, cushions, rugs from all over the world or wooden trays from India. I do the sewing myself in quiet hours, and I find the process of giving new life to the “old and worn” enormously valuable and fun. I only create things I´m found of myself, and I´d love to share with you how I use them in modern and contemporary environments. I love the mix of new and old, and needless to say my heart do a few extra beats when working with genuine stuff.
Hopefully you will see something that gives you an idea for your personal home.

Trends come and go but there is something incredibly unique and honest in transforming a house slowly into a home step by step based on your own taste, lifestyle, family situation and what you already have. In my opinion, mixing contemporary, sleek designs with beautifully aged pieces is unbeatable . By adding this touch to your home it will be timeless and personal, and also encourages us to use what you already have, which is worth valuing.
By allowing this fusion between the old and the new it prevents us from feeling restricted to one style. I often hear people say, it does not fit in. You and you alone decide if it fits or not. If it is functional, beautiful, inherited, a precious gift, or something made by a loved one, and means something to you, it fits. It`s good to be the boss.
Harmonising different styles is easy if you go with what you love building an ambience that can be felt by all. Personally, I love the feel of textured textiles, and my favourite is natural, good quality, materials that have become worn and faded over time. Such pieces add another storyline to the scene.

Decorate your home only with things that spark joy, make your smile, laugh or brings the good memories alive. I personally love resting my eyes on symmetry, harmonious assembles or interesting textures. It can be as simple as flowers fresh from the garden wrapped in morning dew.
I love to come into a home, and see something different, a personal setting by the people that lives there, which gives you a unique feel, sparks your curiosity or make you feel that you are welcomed into your hosts magical world.
Books is one of my favourites for decoration. I change them around in different settings, and layer them up with other items that I like or that means something special to me. Layering is a good way to create interesting combinations , using different pattern, colours or textures. I think a clean canvas with a modern or contemporary design needs something genuine which stands out, creates an atmosphere and where the contrasts between new and old makes a difference to the space.
I can still remember the impact a “stuffed eagle” had on me in my childhood. Flying high over the staircase, the beautiful bird evoked both fear and fascination every time I visited my best friends house. I loved to hear the story about how the bird ended up there, the earthy colours of the feathers, and maybe more than anything, the crooked beak. By the way, the bird is still there, over the stair case, 40 years on.
Another dear memory, is the admiration every time I visited my auntie, who had a beautiful, very old painting of a little girl holding a doll, and the doll was actually sitting at a table under the painting. The girl was a relative, and the doll were still intact, not for playing though, only display, with the most beautiful dress and a porcelain head.. it was almost like a ritual to look at the painting, and the untouchable doll every time I visited. Mixed with the smell of my aunties home baked buns, these is the kind of decoration I´m aiming for, not literally, in terms of a dead bird and a doll, however, I´m sure you got it!
