How I planned for a holiday home design to last for years to come;
Vibrant colours & Materials
Decoration to underline the atmosphere
Inherited and worn objects with a story
Most of all, aiming to bring the outdoor in, like colours, textures, light.
The idea when creating a theme for this cottage were a mix of the atmosphere in a ski lodge in the alps, traditional colours and patterns from Norway, plus inherited items with a family history, natural materials, wood (mostly pine), stained to appear white (not yellow as pine happens to be). We wanted to keep the walls in a light colour to mirror the landscape and the snow outside the window, and use rich colours to create a warm and comfortable atmosphere. A huge sofa`s to sink into is a must along with colourful throws, a wooden rustic table and, what I love the most, black and white photographs and family photos related to nature and ski activities.
A huge table for dining, extendable to seat extra guests when necessary, and chairs to survive long lasting meals after a long day outdoor. Along with a cracking sound from the fire place this is the ultimate recipe for a relaxing and comforting place to spend family time, weekends and holidays.
Have a look!
